SUMMARY:Social Media Overload - Invercargill
DESCRIPTION:The Illusion Of Identity \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n									  Date and TimeTuesday 7 July  •  Starts at 7 PM LocationJoseph Sargeant Community Centre OverviewWe spend our lives building an identity. A name. A history. A personality. A story of who we believe ourselves to be. But what if the self we defend\, protect\, and define is not as solid as it appears? Modern physics increasingly reveals a universe that is not made of fixed things\, but of dynamic processes and patterns. At the same time\, deeper contemplative traditions have long questioned whether there is anything permanent behind our thoughts\, feelings\, perceptions\, and experiences. In this thought-provoking talk\, we will explore a radical possibility: that what we call “identity” may be an appearance arising from countless changing conditions rather than a fixed\, independent self. Through insights drawn from science\, philosophy\, and contemplative inquiry\, we will investigate how the mind constructs reality\, why we experience ourselves as separate individuals\, and whether the person we believe ourselves to be truly exists in the way we imagine. If everything is constantly changing\, what remains? If our perceptions are continually shifting\, who is the observer? And if identity itself is an illusion\, what does that mean for the way we live\, relate to others\, and understand reality? Join us for an evening of exploration into one of humanity’s deepest questions: Who are you\, really? SpeakersVen.
